Developing effective treatments for critical tissue defects remains a major challenge in medicine and bioengineering. Tissue-engineering (TE) scaffolds, which provide porous three-dimensional structures to support cell growth and tissue regeneration, are widely investigated as a potential solution. Recent advances in additive manufacturing have enabled the fabrication of scaffolds with complex and precisely controlled architectures.
The main goal of the planned study under the PRELUDIUM project is to investigate the feasibility of fabricating multi-level, hierarchically ordered TE scaffolds with entangled fibers through a synergistic combination of melt electrowriting (MEW) and porogen leaching, using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the porogen. The study aims to elucidate the relationships between fabrication parameters and the resulting morphological, mechanical, and functional properties of the scaffolds, including their potential to support tissue regeneration.
